David Evans grew up in Bermondsey, London. After graduating from Bradford University and the London School of Economics, David began his career in advertising, pioneering the use of focus groups and mystery shopping.
In 1980, David founded The Grass Roots Group, a performance improvement firm that enables businesses to connect with new customers and enhance both customer and employee engagement. At the heart of the company was a belief in the power of inspiration and the ability to facilitate behaviour change. During the three decades of David’s stewardship, Grass Roots became a global enterprise, employing 1000+ staff across 12 countries. The business had turnover of nearly £300 million with clients including 160 of the FT Global 500 and 40 of the FTSE 100.
David has always been committed to his community, making contributions over the years amounting to seven figures. In 2008, David received recognition for his efforts when he became the first person awarded an MBE for the single citation of ‘Services to Corporate Social Responsibility.’
Now retired from Grass Roots, David’s attention has turned to other socially responsible endeavours under the umbrella organisation Future Proof Enterprises. These include:
Airtopia, tackling the problem of indoor air quality.
Matilda’s Planet, retrofitting insulation into houses to combat cold and damp.
Headway, an educational company supplying PSHE curriculum support to schools.
Each of the social enterprises has committed to The Future Proof Promise.
And, sitting at the heart of everything, is The David Evans Grass Roots Foundation which aspires to deliver a well-rounded education to children and young people in the UK. Click here to read more about the Foundation.
